We’ve all had those moments. Those moments when complacency and stagnation becomes the norm of our everyday lives. Those moments when we become more intrigued by the NOW because what’s NEXT seems too difficult to achieve. Isn’t it funny how we so often place limitations on how far we can go because we’ve become too comfortable in our now. Before we’re even fully aware of it, our now becomes the new standard of success. We begin to unconsciously believe that where we are is the furthest we can go because it’s what we’re used to. For years this was my mindset. I had become so accustomed to dysfunction, bondage, and settling for less that I thought that was the best life had to offer me. And because of my limited thinking I found myself stuck in the same cycle and same routine for many years.
Ultimately, my deliverance from stagnation and complacency came down to a decision. I could either take God at His word and decide to embrace the life He has for me or I could allow fear to win and remain stuck.
Whether I like to admit it or not, I remained stuck all those years not because I had to but because I chose to. Years later I realize that I had the power to choose.
Because of fear and my limited thinking I chose comfort over growth, and familiarity over discovery. But today I’m writing to let you know that you don’t have to make the same mistake I did! Choose to grow. Choose to be better than you were yesterday. Choose to embrace the life God has for you.
Here are 5 things you can do to become unstuck and embrace the life God has for you:
1. Believe in yourself
A lot of the times we become stuck because we don’t believe in ourselves. I realize that I spent countless years bound to complacency because I didn’t believe that I had what it takes to do anything different than what I was used to. Confidence is powerful! The more you believe in yourself and the ability that God has placed on the inside of you, the less stagnant you become.
2. Change your focus
Instead of focusing so much on your weaknesses, focus on your strengths! You have more in you than what you think. Write down all the things you’re good at and use it as a motivation to keep going.
3. Discover your purpose
Ask God to reveal to you your purpose. Discovering your purpose changes everything! When you have something to live for, you have a reason not to quit, and a reason not to stay where you are!
4. Find your creativity
Nothing kills stagnation like creativity. Creativity opens up the door to new possibilities and discoveries. The great thing about creativity is that it comes in all forms and fashion. When God created you, He created you with the ability to create! Use your creativity to create something new!
5. Start seeing your future as greater than your now
The enemy of the future is the present. I was stuck all those years because I was too blinded by my now to see my future. I had become too familiar with how things were that I couldn’t see the life God had planned for me. Whatever God has in mind for you is far greater than your now. Where you are right now at this very moment is the LEAST you will ever be. Start seeing your future as greater than your now!

Thanks for this post. These tips were very helpful. It’s so easy to become complacent and to stagnate in our spiritual lives, and in our lives in general. This can particularly be the case when we don’t see any movement or progress and are waiting for a breakthrough from God. When we are in those dry periods we can begin to lose our spiritual appetite and eventually become cynical and apathetic. We do need to sometimes exercise an act of the will to get out of that slump even if it means choosing to worship God even when we don’t feel like it.

I absolutely agree! It’s especially in those moments of waiting on the Lord that we feel the most stagnant and complacent. I know this to be true even in my own life. But what’s been helping me not to become complacent in my waiting period is knowing that just because I don’t see the manifestation in the natural yet doesn’t mean that God isn’t working on the inside. A lot of the times God answers our prayers from the INSIDE OUT not the outside in.He prepares us for it first then He blesses us with it. I believe it’s important in those moments of waiting on the Lord that we keep our eyes on the promise and not on our present circumstance. Thanks so much for reading and for sharing your thoughts! 😊

Making the list of what I’m good at. Thank you for the challenge. I’ve had some physical struggles the past couple of years and it has been easy for me to think more about those than what I CAN do. That is going to change now, today. Thank you.
