Whenever I thought about how I would feel the moment I found out that my husband and I were pregnant, I always envisioned myself being so excited that I couldn’t contain myself, or crying so hard that I could barely breathe. I always envisioned a happy moment filled with thanksgiving to the Lord for giving us such a wonderful gift, coupled with lots of hugs and kisses.
Just a few days ago everything that I’ve been envisioning became reality. We found out we were pregnant. Excitement took over the both of us, we hugged and kissed, I cried, and we both thanked God for giving us such an amazing gift.
But what happened next was far from what I envisioned at all…..
Reality set in…..I’M GOING TO BE A MOM!
Immediately, I felt the pressure
-Pressure to have it all together
-Pressure to know exactly what to do
-Pressure to be strong when I felt far from it at the moment
-Pressure to fight through exhaustion, and physical pain because that’s what “strong” women do
-Pressure to hide behind a smile when all I really wanted to do was burst out into tears
Instantly, I thought about how we as women are pressured by the world every single day.
-Pressured to look a certain way
-Pressured to be a certain size
-Pressured to be a great cook
-Pressured to have it all together
-Pressured to hide behind a smile when really we’re dying on the inside
-Pressured to be “superwoman” even when we feel weak
I believe that a lot of the times we feel pressured because we forget. We forget that as daughters of God we don’t have to face anything alone. We forget that His grace is sufficient. We forget that He’s a PRESENT help in time of trouble. We forget that He loves us with an everlasting love, in spite of our imperfections.
As a daughter of God
-It really is ok NOT to have all the answers
-It really is ok NOT to know which way to go
-It really is ok NOT to feel strong all the time
-It really is ok to feel helpless
-It really is ok to cry
-It really is ok NOT to be ok
NO PRESSURE!

Aww congrats! You’ll be great parents! ❤
I don’t have the exact same circumstances because I’m still in school, but I would always pressure myself to take the highest classes, get the best grades, or get involved the most and I came to found out that things aren’t enjoyable when there’s all that pressure. I learned that it’s okay to just do things that I enjoy and take off the pressure.

Thank you so much!! I absolutely agree!! The journey is much more fun, and enjoyable when we accept God’s grace instead of allowing ourselves to pressured. That’s what grace does, it makes things easier. A lot of times we feel pressured because we forget that God has already extended grace to us. We just have to accept it. Thanks so much for reading!😊

This post reminds me of a good book called Captivating: Unveiling the Mystery of a Woman’s Soul by John and Stasi Eldredge. She talks about all the pressure women put on themselves and how we’re always feeling like we could be prettier or a better wife or doing more, etc. They based a lot of their conclusions on the creation and tempting by the serpent, and I can’t remember the reasoning exactly, but they were saying that women need to feel approved, loved, and special. God wants to make us feel that way 🙂

Wow! Sounds like a great book! As women we definitely need to feel loved, and appreciated always. I’m so grateful that we have a loving Father who extends His love and grace to us daily even when we don’t deserve it. He’s such a good good Father!😊Thanks so much for reading Lily!!

Yes, you’re absolutely right! I just really wanted to be transparent and let expecting moms know that it’s ok to go through all of these emotions and we shouldn’t allow the world to make us feel less than strong for having those feelings. Why do you think so many moms feel pressured or go through mom guilt?
